Red Hot Rhythm "Come Party to the Progressive Beat!" is the theme for this year’s Benefit, where we will celebrate Calhoun with Latin-inspired flavors, sounds and surroundings that will transport you to a bygone era of tropical sophistication and style. Join us in the land of rum, rumba and red-hot rhythm, where you will feel the heat and follow the beat of the Latin spirit.
Held each year, the Benefit is a wonderful yearly event when parents, grandparents, alumni, faculty/staff and friends come together to celebrate the school, the students and our entire community. The Benefit is also a vital element in Calhoun's fundraising efforts--helping to fund the school's annual operations, which are not covered by tuition alone.

PARTY DETAILS 

Event Overview
A special event for a special year! The Gala is part of an ambitious fundraising campaign recently launched to ensure that Calhoun begins its new era in excellent financial health, ready to make the most of the opportunities ahead. The 19 for 19 Campaign for Calhoun will raise $19 million for the school's endowment and annual operations in honor of Steve's 19 years. The funds raised from the Gala will be a critical component of the Campaign's success.

The night brings the chance to connect with new parents, socialize with familiar faces, and enjoy an adults-only night out filled with fun, laughter, and surprises! This will be the annual Benefit for 2017, with funds raised going to support our school and the amazing, enriching educational experience our students receive at Calhoun. It will be a fun-filled night and a really great way to celebrate our amazing school with the Calhoun community!

Highlights of the Night

  • Enjoy cocktail hour with passed hors d’oeuvres in the Theodore Roosevelt Rotunda with open bars, and an amazing and expansive Silent Auction (including one-of-a-kind Lower School children's artwork by grade).
  • A three-course dinner and a highly entertaining Live Auction with the iconic giant blue whale in the Milstein Hall of Ocean Life.
  • This is all followed by a DJ, dancing and more in the Akeley Hall of African Mammals.

Gala Theme
Join us for an extraordinary evening as we honor Calhoun's past and celebrate its bright future. What better way than in the New York City landmark most beloved by Calhoun's families for decades: The American Museum of Natural History.

This is a Gala - elegant, pristine, yet romantic. An evening of excitement not to be missed. Imagine walking up the familiar steps of the grand entrance and experiencing it as you never have before, as the space is transformed into an exciting celebration of family, good fortune, renewal and hope.

Peonies - and the freshness of springtime - are central to our theme this year. Peonies are symbols of romance and prosperity, of family and abundance. And, in tribute to this year's historic venue, our theme highlights the enchantment of New York's Edwardian era, with Art Nouveau influences, a focus on nature, and a passion for philanthropy.

The 2017 Gala is your time to feel special. Wear your favorite party dress or your most magnificent attire. If you enjoy dressing within the year's theme, consider springtime florals - or the evening's colors of midnight blue and silver - or, for those most daring, a nod to Art Nouveau.

One thing remains the same: The Calhoun 2017 Gala is a time to come together to celebrate and support the school and our community. We hope to see you there.
